The Copa America 2024 will witness the birth of a new Card system in the game as the continental tournament will have the use of Pink Card, a first in the history of Football.
The Copa America 2024 starts in the USA from June 20. A total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament, 10 main participants from South America, and 6 invitee teams from North America.
The top stars like Lionel Messi, Vinicius Jr will play in the tournament. But in the matches, we may see Pink Card brandished by referee. This is the first time Pink Card will be shown in football, as it has already received approval from IFAB.
What is Pink Card?
Pink Card is the latest card system which is introduced in football. The Pink Card will come into play for a special substitution. Although the Yellow and Red cards are related to punishment of the players, the usage of the Pink Card is completely different.
How will Pink Card Function in Copa America 2024?
The Pink Card will be used for a concussion substitution. Generally, when a player suffers a head injury and gets concussion, the rule comes into play. If a player is required to be taken off in Copa America, the referee will show the Pink Card to the fans and the opposition team to allow the Concussion Substitution.
The specialty of the Concussion Substitution is that it doesn’t eat up the substitute count of a team. In a football match, the latest FIFA approved rule allows five substitutions. But with the concussion substitution, a team can replace a maximum of Six players in a match.
